What is the role of art in the world?

This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for July 01, 2008:
Art is the Absolute rising through the subconscious to new initialize new awareness in the conscious mind.
Art—as well as beauty—is in the eye of the beholder. Art is created in the eye/mind/spirit of the onlooker with each viewing, be it what we traditionally consider the “artist”, or a passing appreciator. If no “artist” passes the grandest beauty, no art is seen, no art exists.
For the artist, art is ever present.
I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free. —Michelangelo
--or perhaps the angel was always free, but Michelangelo had to carve until he could shake off his and (many of) our preconceptions.

Thanks for sharing this. I feel like I am in a masterpiece just reading it.
Thank you, Kathy. Blessings and continued inspiration to you,

PS….I like (from your profile) HAPPINESS DOES NOT DEPEND ON OUTWARD THINGS, BUT ON THE WAY WE SEE THEM. Tolstoy–so it is with art
