What does it mean to be in relationship?

This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for December 27, 2007:
To be in a relationship (be it with a person, animal, any living thing-animate or inanimate, physical or not) is to no longer define oneself in terms and visions of self. In this shift, one moves closer to defining their experince in terms of Self.
